Cougars of the Month

While under unique circumstances and restrictions due to COVID, Thomas Jefferson Middle School staff is continuing with the monthly Cougar of the Month Award. The Cougar of the Month Award is designed to spotlight students who best “Respect the P.A.W.” (Perseverance, Attitude, Wise Choices) at Thomas Jefferson Middle School.  Through distance learning the following students have stood out in the month of December to their teachers for working hard, joining class sessions on time, and being active participants.

6th Grade Cougars of the Month

Evie’lyn Ramirez and Alejandro Moreno were selected as representatives of this award for the 6th grade. They have made their mark as model students in their first year at Thomas Jefferson Middle School and their efforts in the classroom speak loudly. Alejandro Moreno commented on behalf of himself and co-recipient stating distance learning has “taught me more than lessons. It taught me how some lives can be played out and how it takes all of us to make a great effort to make the community better again.” He acknowledged the challenges they’ve faced in the classroom and stated they have overcome them by supporting one another. This is a true demonstration of positivity. Evie’lyn and Alejandro have no doubt earned the recognition of Cougar of the Month.

7th Grade and 8th Grade Cougars of the Month

Adrian Garcia and Kelyn Cordova were recognized as our 7th grade Cougars of the Month while Pedro Trujillo and Belinda Reyes received the award for the 8th grade. All four of these students have attended Thomas Jefferson prior to this school year and understand that even with the distance learning transition, they must always do their best to represent the P.A.W. Belinda Reyes commented following receiving the award, recognizing that virtual learning has helped her learn to encourage herself more. While it has been a learning experience for everyone she states it has helped improve on technology skills and responsibility in order to best achieve completing class work from home. We are proud of our students for Persevering, having great Attitudes, and making Wise choices; ultimately earning recognition as Cougars of the Month.
