   While under unique circumstances and restrictions due to COVID, Thomas Jefferson Middle School staff is continuing with the monthly Cougar of the Month Award. The Cougar of the Month Award is designed to spotlight students who best “Respect the P.A.W.” (Perseverance, Attitude, Wise Choices) at Thomas Jefferson Middle School.  Through distance learning the following students have stood out in the month of September to their teachers for working hard, joining class sessions on time, and being active participants.

6th Grade Cougars of the Month

Fernando Altamirano has been selected as Cougar of the Month for 6th grade. Starting his first year here at TJMS, Fernando is displaying great character and motivation to do well. His teacher recognized him for his hard work in going above and beyond and always striving to do the most. He has been patient and helpful with his peers through distance learning as well. Fernando is proud of his accomplishment and his perseverance has earned him the recognition of Cougar of the Month.

 

Ximena Flores Castillo has been selected as Cougar of the Month for 6th grade. Just like her co-cougar award recipient she is also very helpful in the classroom and works hard to make sure she has all her work submitted on time and correctly. Ximena is displaying great leadership skills as she works with classmates who need extra help while still completing her assignments. Her helping attitude has earned her the recognition of Cougar of the Month.


 

7th Grade Cougars of the Month

Alonso Rodriguez has been selected as Cougar of the Month for 7th grade. He has been working very hard to do the best he can even with the distractions he faces from studying at home. To overcome them he isolates himself from his siblings and other distractions so that his focus is on his class. Alonso feels amazing for earning this recognition and making his parents proud. He hopes to maintain his gpa to keep making his family proud. Through his wise choices in handling at home distractions to stay focused, Alonso has earned the right to be Cougar of the Month.

 

Sophia Perezchica has been selected as Cougar of the Month for 7th grade. She has been working very hard to maintain a 4.0 gpa and adapt to virtual learning. Sophia stated through our interview that this virtual experience has taught her “that even when no one's watching you still have to try your hardest.” She looks forward to the day students can return to campus, but in the meantime is staying focused by remembering this is all another obstacle to prepare her for her future. Sophia’s attitude and integrity has earned her the recognition of Cougar of the Month.


 

8th Grade Cougars of the Month

Pedro Rosales has been selected as Cougar of the Month for 8th grade. Through the distance learning experience, Pedro has learned that communication skills are very important. He understands the importance of clear communication between his teacher and peers so everyone gets the help they need. Carrying a gpa above 3.25 he looks forward to his classes getting harder because he knows it will push him to gain better time management skills and increase his knowledge base. Pedro’s attitude in taking action to strengthen the necessary skills for virtual learning has earned him the recognition of Cougar of the Month. 

 

Lucero Ramirez Garcia has been selected as Cougar of the Month for 8th grade. Although faced with new challenges through virtual learning, Lucero has been able to maintain a gpa of 3.75. She works hard to stay focused in her classes and turns in all her assignments. Lucero’s perseverance through this online transition has earned her the recognition of Cougar of the Month.
